By: Sydney Durst First things first, I am by no means a music review professional, but I thought it would be cool to share my thoughts on The Maine's newest album (especially since I'll be seeing them live twice this year). So without further ado, here it is: The Maine, an independent pop punk band, just released their new album You Are Okay, which came out this past March on the 29th. The album on the first listen immediately gave “Scream the lyrics live” vibes. The album is filled with songs that can be played live and be successful in getting the crowd to jump around with songs like “My Best Habit” or slow down and sing along with the band when it comes to songs like “Broken Parts”. Overall the album is one that can be connected to. The theme for this album overall is hope and accepting that- and all the pun intended- you are okay. It is very much an album about learning that it is okay to have moments of feeling sad or broken, but that you will overcome that eventually. It is what I would consider an empowering album for anyone who is struggling with something in their lives and need that “Hey you’re okay” moment. The Blast Track: “Tears Won’t Cry”. The song opens with just the sound of a guitar being played giving off a more rock vibe. The song is one that could easily be a movie sound track (think of young runaways or criminals on the run). Most notable lyric from it: “Just like a secret lovers’ suicide // Kiss off into the sky” The Pass Track: “Forevermore”. Not that it is not a good song, however I feel like it is a song that will sound better live than on the album. Part of my reasoning I that the songs acoustics although clear and precise, does have an “echo” to it that can take away the rawness that acoustic songs are supposed to deliver. Most notable lyric from it: “We are here and alive // In our corner of time” The rating I would give this album would be a 4/5. The entire album flowed amazingly, each song showed the emotions that the band put into it and the guitar riffs on most of the songs were amazing. The lyrics were mature and complex while still giving off their intended meaning and overall just a good album to listen to in the car, live, or in your room. The music overall is energetic in a way that roots back to early pop punk music, while still maintain a modern sound and something that is purely The Maine. Listen to the album here!
