Happy August everyone! I hope the summer has been going swimmingly for all of you. It has gone by fast for myself if I'm being honest. So I wanted to give a nice life update before going back into posting regularly on here again (probably once a month if I'm honest).
Since we last talked I've moved back to Galveston and have been traveling a little more. I recently (May is recent right?) went to Big Bend National Park, Austin (again), and plan to go to Dallas. It was fun just being one with nature and in general getting away from day-to-day life. I also went to Sad Summer Fest back in July to see some of my favorite bands from when I was in high school play live! It was great and let me also check out a new part of Houston!! With July also came new accomplishments! I'm now writing for Bearded Music Gentleman, which as someone who's wanting a job in journalism, it's rad to have a publisher let me write for them! Now obviously my summer wasn't all sunshine and roses, but I feel like overall it was pretty good. I have some really exciting things planned for this blog this fall (cause let's be honest I thrive August through October) and I hope you all enjoy it as well!! If you want to keep up with what I'm doing outside of my blog (i.e those infamous road trips) give my Instagram (@Sunsetsyd1) and Twitter (@Sunsetsyd) a follow! And as always, thank you for reading!

Sad Summer Fest was a blast! I did a full review over on Bearded Gentlemen Music if you'd like to read it!
By: Sydney. D Last week my family and I packed a bag and drove to Austin (well, technically Big Bend, but Austin was on the way)! It was a post-surviving finals trip for myself and also the only Texas date for The Maine’s spring tour for their newest album You Are Okay. I had never seen them live before so I went with an open mind and honestly I was nowhere close to disappointed.
By: Sydney Durst First things first, I am by no means a music review professional, but I thought it would be cool to share my thoughts on The Maine's newest album (especially since I'll be seeing them live twice this year). So without further ado, here it is:
Last weekend I attended the opening to an art exhibit on my school campus. It was my first time going to an art show in a long time and my first time going by myself ever! The artist, Trey Duvall, and the curator, Bradly Brown, were the ones who had put together the solo exhibition titled Super Tuning! The theme was paradox. For me what made the art interesting was how everything was given an equal start and yet each had their own “journey”. I think it adds a human element into art which, for contemporary art, can be considered “out of touch” for many sometimes. But let's move onto the art! I really enjoyed viewing this. All of the art was super interactive and I will be trying to go again after Spring Break!
If you'd like to view this yourself: The exhibit runs until April 12th at San Jacinto South Campus in Flickinger Fine Arts Center from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the art gallery, Room 143. There is no charge for admission to the reception or the gallery. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Being completely honest here I really didn't want to write another "Single on V-day" post or "14 Things You Can Do On Valentine's" post. So today’s post is a question actually: What is love to you?
I’m going to go with platonic love on my answer and say for me love is the desire to want the best for someone else. You want them to succeed in their dreams and are willing to help them get there. It’s also being there for that person, even if it’s just to be a listening ear. So what about you? What is love to you? Platonic, romantic, familial, I’ll accept answers for them all! Until next time (because I'm not completely anti-Valentine's day....)! Love, Sydney It was the summer of 2015, end of July in Dallas Texas, and hot as all get out. But off of I-30 right smack dab in the middle of Fair Park in South Dallas was Warped Tour. Fifty bands from all over the country- and sometimes world- in one spot for one day (until they head down to Houston to do it again), and I was there to see it right in the middle of me being fifteen. It was my very first time listening to all of those bands I bought CD’s of and it was also my first ever music festival.
As someone who grew up in a single parent home, I knew early on that working through college was going to be in the plan. Fast forward to 2019, and I am now balancing what can be called a full-time job while also being a full-time student. And since according to The Atlantic, up to a quarter of college students are also in the same boat, I figured I share how I balance my work and school life.
